Cooking for the fun of it with Fine Young Cooks
Kids and adults welcome to get messy
The Fine Young Cooks team are masters in the kitchen and enjoy teaching others the skills they have to offer. The group of ladies include Lewaine von Allemann, Pretty Majola and the newest member to join team, Taryn van der Westhuizen. She brings years of hospitality experience to the mix and is passionate about people and her community. The trio of ladies are situated in their cooking studio at the beautiful Karibu Nursery in Umhlali in Ballito and teaching cooking classes are a love for all three.
Fine Young Cooks offer these classes for kids and adults and creates a fun and colourful learning experience in the kitchen. Although cooking may not be a skill that all people acquire, it is definitely one that that would benefit a person in the long run, and getting children involved in the kitchen fosters an interest in food from an early age. By involving a child in the preparation of food they are exposed to a number of advantages:

- It sparks their interest in trying new foods
- It practices their math skills
- It practices their reading skills
- It practices their chemistry skills
- Its encourages them to eat more fruit and vegetables
- It teaches them the origins of food

Holiday club cooking classes are a popular happening at the Fine Young Cooks studio. With each day bustling with excitement with all the kids getting ready to get their hands sticky. These lessons are taught from as young as three to the age of 13 and includes all utensils, equipment and foods used to make the delicious creations. These classes need a minimum of 6 children with a maximum of 20 at a cost of R150.00 per young chef. In two hours the kids get to make their dish of the day and being able to show off something that was made from scratch and then scoffing down that accomplishment is part of the fun.
For those kids who’d prefer to join on a weekend, the Fine Young Cooks have lessons on a Saturday morning once a month too. Contact the team to find out more about dates and times.

But excitement in the kitchen is not only limited to the kids… Adults are also welcomed to the kitchen and can make just as much of a mess as the young ones do, there’s always something new to learn with the FYC team. Many a birthday and bachelorette party has been held at the quaint kitchen in Karibu Nursery, where excited ladies meet and team up to make mouth-watering dishes. The perfect way to end the session is around the table, devouring the dishes of their much enjoyed labour.

So how about booking a year end function or team building with the ladies at Fine Young Cooks? It is a fun way to get everyone involved, to inspire communication, to get to know one another in a relaxed environment and to spark a bit of healthy competition. Choose to either cook by theme or by challenges – but build relationships through food!
While cooking classes with the Fine Young Cooks team can be for fun, they also focus on providing these very important skills to domestic workers to further prepare them for their role in the household. The month long cooking classes are hosted on a Tuesday morning once a week for four weeks and ladies learn to make a variety of foods – salads, chicken and beef dishes and sweet treats. Along with these, the students are also taught safety in the kitchen, the use of basic kitchen equipment and menu planning.
