The Ballito Pro Food and Festival 2017 has something for the whole family.

If you’re attending this event, be sure to make your way to the main festival area, at Willard Beach on Tuesday the 4th and Wednesday the 5th of July to experience some culinary marvels.

The Tuesday night includes a competition for the youngsters aged 6 – 13 years, where entrants will be judged on their creation of a ‘Freak Shake’.

The mini-milkshake-makers will compete in teams of two and will need to dazzle the judges by making the craziest, freakiest and tastiest milkshake filled with ingredients of their choice…

The winners will be named Ballito’s ‘Freak Shake’ team of 2017 plus the winning shake will be featured on Concha Café and Bakery’s menu.

The entry fee is R250 per pair and each team will need to bring along their toppings and tastes of choice, and construct their freaky creation on the night. Entrants will also be required to pick a name and dress the part.

The judging panel includes: Luci Hirsch Jackson – Brand Manager for the Hirsch’s group, Diogo Barendse owner of Concha Café and Bakery as well as their youngest judge, Abigail van der Linde, a Fine Young Cooks winner and cooking contestant over the years.

The evening is proudly sponsored by Hirsch’s, Defy, Concha Café and Bakery, Fine Young Cooks and Counter Culture.

Last year’s winners in the junior category proudly display their prize.

The Wednesday night hots up big time with a South African style ’SHISA NYAMA’.

Contestants will be put to the test with a sizzling mystery box challenge set up by the judges for the night, celebrity chef Callie-Anne Gavazzi and Eldry Leibrandt of Shisa Mfethu’s Ultimate Braai Masters.

The heat is on while the participants face off over their surprise ingredients and work hard to impress the judges.

There is an entry fee of R300 per team of two. Contestants need to come prepared with a team name, their unique dress up and their Shisa Nyama feast to wow the judges.

The hottest evening under the Ballito stars is sponsored by Counter Culture, Hirsch’s and Big Green Egg.

But that’s not the only entertainment you can expect to see at the Ballito Pro Food and Wine Festival this year. Both nights will see the runway heat up with fashion shows by Simply Models kitted out in their African inspired theme, where the Top 3 Miss Ballito will attend, and voting for the next Mr Ballito will be done at the same time.

A friendly cooking contest between Darryn Sykes from Illembe Surfriders, and a secret pro surfer will be taking place on the Tuesday night, and on Wednesday celeb chef and local, Callie-Anne Gavazzi will be showcasing her favourite ‘beach bites’. Both nights promise to entertain and leave you hungry for more.

Traditional South African dishes will be made by Buyi, tying into the this year’s theme, Shaka Afrika, while local restaurants, Mozambik, Fiamma Grill, Siggis, and La Piazza showcase their signature dishes over both nights. A food and wine festival wouldn’t be complete without wine tasting, cocktail flaring and craft beer, would it? So of course these liquid refreshments stalls are there to tantalise those taste buds.

Be entertained by Parkour extraordinaire, Street Riders, party to tunes by DJ Fuego Heat, watch some cool moves by the crowd from Sugar Dance and listen to the three-piece Durban born band Avade during the 2017 Ballito Pro Food and Wine Festival.
